That's old school, new school is narrow stance for everthing except driver, chips, short shots near the green, widen the stance change the arc, less power, Look Vijay's swing and then look Tiger's or Sergio's. Old school, new school.

Jack Nicklaus taught that you should play all shots just off the left heel. And that you should only change the width of the stance ....example with the wedge a narrow stance and as the club gets longer the stance widens...

You are probably hitting with a sharp descending blow.With your irons this is great .With the driver you really should be level or ascending.Swing more around your body and move the ball away a bit father so that you can aproach form the inside,you may hook at first so experiment w ball position.I can't see your swing so i have to assume you know about weight shift and the sequence of moving parts in the downs swing.See the Kinematic Sequence,here at Utube if you think it's mechanics. kostly ok thats what i thought but you know what i went to a simulator the other day and i was hitting in the middle of the head but it was still going high. i can tee the ball down but everything i do it seems like i hit it high. so when i get to my bal i have no roll it just stopped or had back spin.

You're hitting underneath the teed ball and off of the top of the clubface. This produces the "pop-up". I would try teeing the ball lower *maybe 1/4-1/2 inch* or tee it farther up in your stance. Whats happening with you it sounds like your coming to the point of impact at the apex of your swing. You want the point of impact just in FRONT of the apex. This should give you the ASCENDING blow he is talking about. Hitting UP and following through the ball.

ok i have a question. i put the bal in front of my stance with my driver, i try not to tee it to high but when i swing my loft of the ball is as high or higher than my distance. my club is 9.5 degree. and why do i get back spin on my drive i get no role i can get back spin off my drive please help.

thank you so much..i never realized that the divit was taken after the ball..i was already componsating for my slice by putting the ball farther ahead with the driver..but now i know why it works..

@AbbyKnightsFtw When passing a garage sale, I saw an unattended kid dragging three woods across the driveway and noticed the red labes. Stopped the car and got them out of his hands. 1, 3, and 4 persimmon, never hit and flawless until that kid damaged them on the toe area. If your playing off 4 you need a players club simply as that. You will find clubs like the MB so much more workable than the AP plus once you've had a club as beautiful as the MB or Mizuno blades you will never go back to a chunky cavity back.

left the UK 8 years ago and though i would treat myself and my wife to the what i thought was the best golf clubs money could buy, well wrong first my wife's driver face split, the head came off her 3 wood then her 5 wood, it gets worse the same happened to my 3 and 5 wood then the head fell of my putter then my ping i3 6 iron snapped just below the grip I emailed ping and Basically they said unlucky the pro at my old golf club was wright don't move far from the Ping factory

Hi Shawn. Quick question. At what point in my swing development should I consider getting fitted. An extreme example was a guy I was working with that played for only one week and went and bought a fitted set of clubs when he had nothing going for him. Myself, I'm getting better, but still developing my swing. Even though my swing is still developing, but getting closer, should I still wait, or should I get fitted now?

Hi Shawn, love your videos. I am looking at buying a new set of irons, I am 6'4 and when i go into shops their immediate advice is to get shafts 1 inch longer than standard. When i tried all the different brands i found that i was striking the X22's the best. Problem is, this was with the standard length shaft. So, i am unsure as to whether i should order a set 1 inch over (without being able to try them out) or would the standard length be ok (given my height). Thanks

Sorry for the late answer; shaft selection seems fine and they are a good set of clubs; the key though would have been to try others to compare; but there are other factors like were you swinging through the ball and was the distance between you and the ball correct when you tried them; I am sure that after a couple months that things are starting to gel? i just had a set of cobra customised to me. I'm not a tall guy (5'8") but i found out tht I hit a standard length club the same as one tht has been lengthened by 0.5 inch. The club fitter suggested that I should opt for the longer club ie 0.5" longer to give more shot flexibility and I can always grip down if I want. Is he right?? thanks

Gday Shawn, You mention the preferance to blade irons over cavity, i dont see many players with blades goin around, the closest is maybe AP2's, do you think a player on cavity backs with a single figure handicap is considered not a 'true' golfer than one who uses blades? or is it a feedback thing your more looking for. Thanks, really appreciate that. What I just don't get about golf is how one day all my drives are pure and my short game hopeless, the next my driver sprays and I am pure gold with the wedge & putter... I do know really, I think I just don't play often enough, but it is unlike any other game in that regards - such small margins. Will never give up though. I have 50+ years to improve at this game and there's plenty of beautiful courses out there to take my mind off my faithful snap hook :-).

Yes they have! They are bigger and have better leading edges and better grooves too; there is a lot more selection in small cavity back forged irons too; well worth the try with Mizuno, Cobra, Titleist and Bridgestone; Shawn

Hey Shawn, I have a question about "game improvement" irons...they are more forgiving for sure, but in terms of actually improving your game do you think a set of decent blades is better to have? I'm a (very) high handicapper, I own some G.I. irons which I like but I do miss the joy of a perfectly struck 2-iron (admittedly that didn't happen that often!) and the feedback of a blade. My old blades were terrible though and way too long for me...have blades improved much in the last 20 yrs?

If you like their feel and are consistent with distance then stick to them; you can play blades anytime; we were all on blades 30 years ago; Ping clubs were just coming out...all you saw in bags were MacGregor, Hogan, Wilson, Powerbilt, Arnold Palmer etc...they were all the same specs; lie, loft, dynamic gold shafts, victory grips. Did not bother us one bit! :) Shawn

.... and you might just knock 10 off that if your clubs were fitted right, your story is exactly the same as mine, except I went and got my (already "perfect") clubs fitted and found they weren't set up correctly for me. They did the job, but COULD have been doing it better.

My irons were "fit" at the thrift store I bought them at. A set of old Wilson Pro Staffs with a steel shaft. My Ping pitching wedge was picked up at a garage sale for $3. My Odessey putter was given to me along with my Cleveland driver. I also picked up a Vulcan hybrid 4 iron at a used sporting goods store for $20. My handicap is 12.

well boys (n' gals) all I can say is "buy them". I'm not a pro and neither a hack. I start off the season ( after a Canadian winter) at around a 14 handicap and end off at around a 10. I'm a small built guy, mid 30s, and a average athlete. I can hit these irons STRAIGHT with 10 to 15 more yards from 4 to 6 and about 8 to 5 y the rest of the way. I had a to crank my (brand name) 5 iron to get 173/175 y, with this 5iron I get 185y (sometimes pure carry).
